Fireproof Safe for Home
Even though we are evolving into a digital paperless world, protecting paper documents and important files is still essential in a home or business. At SimplySafes we have an excellent selection of fireproof safes for the home that match all budgets and requirements.
How does a Fireproof Home Safe Work?
There are different fire safes that protect either paper or data/digital media. The inside of a fireproof safe is required to be below a certain temperature inline with what is being stored inside the safe. The temperatures below are the maximum temperatures that can’t be exceeded.
- Paper – 175 ˚C
- Computer Data - 52 ˚C
- Digital Media - 120 ˚C
So when selecting a fireproof safe you will have to decide on what is being stored within that safe either data/digital media or paper as you are unable to store both types in the same safe unless you choose a safe suitable for what gets damaged at the lowest temperature.
Each fire safe also has a fire rating against it which determines the different level of resistance in terms of the time duration and fire protection. We have fireproof home safes with a fire rating that start at 30 minutes and go up to 60, 90 and 120 minutes.
Selecting the Best Fireproof Home Safe?
When selecting a fireproof home safe it is important to consider the following factors –
- Fire Rating/Resistance – From your insurance company you may have been instructed for a certain amount of fire resistance in minutes such as 30 or 60 minutes.
- Insurance Rating – Cash/Valuables – For each safe it will have an insurance rating which covers the amount being stored within the safe overnight. I.e. £4,000 Cash / £40,000 Valuables.
- Lock Type – The locking type of a fireproof safe is important depending on your requirements for access to the safe, if the safe is being located at home you may prefer to have a key or electronic lock type due to the small number of frequent users. If the safe is being used in a business then an electronic lock or fingerprint locking method might be more suitable due to the volume of end users accessing the safe.
- Size of the Safe – All of our fireproof home safes are available in different sizes and internal capacity levels. So before purchasing we would recommend to evaluate what is required to be stored within the safe just so that you know there will be enough storage space.
- Location of the Safe - The final consideration when selecting a home safe with fire protection is the location of the safe. You may want to protect the safe as best possible in terms of the location so choosing the position is important. This can also be a factor if a fire breaks out at the property and how long it can take for the fire service to extinguish the fire.
Once you have determined on each of the four factors above, this will then simplify and narrow down your options which makes your selection easier for a home safe.
You may want to consider our fireproof data safe range if you are planning to store different types of digital media instead of paper documents.
